's-Heerenhoek

's- Heerenhoek ( Zeeland: Seêrenoek ) is a village within the municipality Borsele in the Dutch province of Zeeland. The village has 1966 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). Until 1970, 's- Heerenhoek an independent municipality and is currently one of the growth centers within Borsele.

History

The village was established in 1616 by the damming of Borsselepolder. Soon, after reclamation, the first houses were built in the northernmost tip of the new polder. The village was built on a dike intersection of three different polders. First, the village developed in Borsselsen polder, but later came here to buildings on adjacent Kraaijertpolders. This dump was named Calishoeck, which means " barren land ". In 1700 this name was gradually replaced by 's- Heerenhoek that emerged from the late Middle Ages. At the time, was the site where the present-day ' s Heerenhoek is, in the farthest corner of the fief of the Ambachts - Men ' s- Heer Arendskerke.

Initially, the village fell both ecclesiastically and administratively under the neighboring Heinkenszand.Kirchlich one in 1655 independently and administratively, it must have been 1672. There was already a complete village with cottages, a mill, a church and a school with small traders and crafts people. 1672 a typical Dutch church was built. This church was halfway torn down in the 80s and in 1988 rebuilt in Arnhem Open Air Museum. Due to the change of power in 1795, religious freedom was guaranteed. Pretty soon after that a Roman Catholic station was built with its own pastor and a church in 's- Heerenhoek.
