.280 Remington

The .280 Remington, also known as 7 mm Remington Express, was introduced in 1957 for the rifles from Remington models 740, 760, 721 and 725. It is based on the .30-06 Springfield, at the narrows of the case neck and something has been extended so that a 7 -mm projectile ( 0.284 inch) fits.

Intended as a competition model for the .270 Winchester, .280 Remington, the distinguished only by their relation to the .270 Winchester somewhat weaker charge. However, the .280 could not really prevail over the .30-06 and the .270, which was reflected in particular in the sales figures. For example, Remington decided in 1979, with a rename to 7 mm Remington Express to increase sales of the .280 Remington.
