.308 Norma Magnum

The .308 Norma Magnum (7.62 × 65 mm BR ) is a hunting cartridge, which was originally developed in Sweden.

The cartridge was developed by Nils Kvale, who worked for the company Norma Precision. Like the larger .358 Norma Magnum it is based on the .300 H & H Magnum. As a basis, the experience has been used in the development of 8mm Kvale. There, the cartridge case of the .300 H & H Magnum was used and the neck of the sleeve so far reduced that the 7.92 -mm bullet fit. In contrast to H & H .300 Magnum sleeve, the diameter tapering to 11.43 mm, which has a .308 Magnum normalization constant diameter of 13.5 mm to the tube shoulder. With the introduction of the .308 Norma Mag, it seemed that the new cartridge will have a bright future, but soon she was in the popularity of the .300 Winchester Magnum replaced. The first and one of the few manufacturers offering the rifles in caliber .308 Norma Magnum was Schultz & Larsen from Denmark with the M- 65DL. The reason for this may have been the very high cost of ammunition.

Related cartridges are medium-caliber .308 Winchester and the 7.62 x 51, .300 Winchester Magnum and also 7.62 x 66.5, the .338 Winchester Magnum and 8.5 x 63.5 and the .30-06 Springfield 7.62 × 63 mm.
