1 -bromobutane is a chemical compound selected from the group consisting of aliphatic, saturated halocarbons and belongs to the group of Butylbromide.
Production and representation
1 -bromobutane can be obtained by bromination of 1-butanol by means of phosphorus tribromide or hydrobromic acid. The bromination with sodium bromide and sulfuric acid gives 1 -bromobutane.
Use
1 -bromobutane can be used for the alkylation, and for the preparation of Grignard compounds from butyllithium.
Safety
The vapors of 1- bromobutane can form (13 ° C, ignition temperature 265 ° C flash point) with air to form an explosive mixture.
