10:23 Campaign

The action 10:23 (also Action 10 high and 23 action 1023; engl 10:23 campaign. ) Is part of the same campaign of homeopathy critical consumer advocates and supporters of the skeptics movement. The aim of the campaign is to inform the public about questionable fundamentals of homeopathy and negative study results.

Campaign

The name of the campaign is a nod to the potentiation in homeopathy and is derived from the Avogadro constant, a physical constant which is defined as the number of particles per mole. On dilution of a milliliter of a one molar solution to this factor in a milliliter is the new solution, statistically, each only a single molecule of the starting substance. Upon further dilution of the solution, the probability that, at the removal of a milliliter of fluid at all is present any molecule of the starting substance, to zero.

On January 30 In 2010, members of the British and New Zealand Skeptics movement for the first time massive overdoses of homeopathic remedies in order to demonstrate to the public that it is over-priced sugar from the pharmacy at hochpotenzierten homeopathics. The action was carried out again on February 5, 2011 at 10:23 clock, around the world in 30 countries and 70 cities, including Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The action triggered many reactions in the media and has been extensively documented. The action in Cologne was moderated by criminal biologist Mark Benecke.

Criticism

The Karl and Veronica Carstens Foundation pointed out in a statement to the fact that homeopathic medicines in Germany are subject to the Medicines Act ( AMG). The call to take it collectively, would therefore be equivalent to a clinical examination and thus be subject to authorization. The Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices ( BfArM) as the competent superior authority of the Federal Ministry of Health review the facts.

The BfArM saw, however, absence of reliable information is no basis for an assessment and therefore no grounds for further inquiries.

It was also found from the Carstens Foundation, that the actions of scientific criteria would have no significance and it trivializes the real problem of knowledge in homeopathy research because the complex therapy system homeopathy would be reduced to the properties of homeopathic remedies.

In addition, the one-time administration of a high potency in healthy individuals was rarely sufficient to cause a reaction.

The Federal Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers complained that the action cultivate outdated prejudices and irresponsibly patients desinformiere.
