( 1143 ) Odysseus is a Jupiter Trojan, was discovered by the German astronomer Karl Wilhelm Reinmuth, who worked at the observatory on the King chair at Heidelberg.

Odysseus is located in the Lagrange point L4 of Jupiter and moves at a distance of 4.782 ( perihelion ) to 5.733 ( aphelion ) astronomical units in about 4400 days around the sun. The orbit is inclined 3.1 ° to the ecliptic, the orbital eccentricity is 0.091. The albedo of the surface of Odysseus is about 0,075 and its diameter is about 126 kilometers.

The asteroid was named after the mythological hero Odysseus.
