German Zollverein

Hesse

  • March: Georg Büchner wrote a draft of a pamphlet on social ills in Hesse.
  • May: Friedrich Ludwig Büchner Weidig revised draft and is font name The Hessian Courier.
  • JULY 31: Georg Büchner's revolutionary and immediately pursued by the authorities polemic The Hessian Courier, which denounces social injustice in the pre-March period is distributed secretly in the Grand Duchy of Hesse.
  • Georg Büchner founded the secret " society of human rights".

Switzerland

  • January 27: Representatives of the liberal Swiss cantons of Lucerne, Bern, train, Solothurn, Basel-Landschaft, St. Gallen, Aargau and Thurgau decide in Baden Baden the article. The provisions trigger the violent protests of the Catholic Church and are a seed for the federal battle in 1847.

France

  • April: The 1832 closed with the Seminole Treaty of Payne 's Landing is ratified by the U.S. Congress.
  • May 24: The United States close the Treaty of Washington with the Chickasaw.

  • In Dornbirn Mohrenbrauerei is established, thus it is the oldest brewery in Vorarlberg.

Science and Technology

The journey of the HMS Beagle

  • After surveying the Strait of Magellan, the HMS Beagle sets course for the Pacific Ocean. About Chiloe, Valdivia and Concepción they sailed to Valparaiso, where it arrives on July 23.
  • August 14 to September 27: Charles Darwin undertakes his first Andean expedition that leads to up to Santiago.
  • While the HMS Beagle charted the Chonos Archipelago, Darwin explored the geology of the island of Chiloe.

Archeology

  • The study of the Hittites begins with the discovery of the city of Hattusa and the associated rock sanctuary Yazılıkaya by the French architect Charles Texier in the Turkish village Bogazköy (now Boğazkale ).

Astronomy

  • John Herschel comes in Cape Town, set up his telescope and discovered numerous fog.
  • Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel observed irregularities in the proper motion of Sirius and suggested that these are due to a companion (who was finally found in 1862 by Alvan Clark on predicted by Bessel place ).

Physics

  • The Clapeyron equation is developed by Émile Clapeyron.
  • Charles Wheatstone succeeds the first time the determination of the velocity of propagation of an electric current in the metallic conductors.

  • February 3: The private Wake Forest University was founded in Winston-Salem in the U.S. state of North Carolina.
