(1870 ) Glaucus was discovered on March 24, 1971 by Cornelis Johannes research team van Houten, Ingrid van Houten - Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels.
Was named the asteroid after Glaucus, son of Priam, a legendary figure of the Trojan War.
