1900 International Lawn Tennis Challenge
The first edition of the International Lawn Tennis Challenge, today's Davis Cup 1900 took place. The competition was initiated by Dwight Filley Davis and fellow students from Harvard University. Davis funded by $ 750 from their own resources a silver cup with 13 inches height and 18 inches in diameter, and wrote in February 1900 from the first International Lawn Tennis Challenge, which was adopted from the British Isles. The two teams played in August 1900 in a proposed mode of Davis against each other: on the first and third day two single games should be played on the second day was to be a double encounter. The winner was the team that won at least three games for themselves. The U.S. could thereby argue against the respected as the world's best tennis nation British, and decide the contest itself.
