1940–41 Primeira Divisão

The Primeira Divisão 1940/41, was the seventh season of the Portuguese top football men. The league was operating during the Second World War continues uninterrupted, because Portugal declared itself to be neutral.

The league title secured for the first time Sporting Lisbon. In the same season succeeded Sporting also the trophy for the first time to win and thus achieved the first double in Portuguese football.

Participant

Until 1948, the teams were eligible, have qualified through regional tournaments. Promotion and relegation was introduced afterwards.

This season the number of participants decreased back to eight teams in the preseason after attending ten teams. New here was the CF Unidos from Lisbon.
