1947 UCI Road World Championships

The UCI Road World Championships 1947 took place in Reims (France) on 2 and 3 August 1947.

Racing

On a circuit of 7.8 kilometers, the professional drivers covered with 35 rounds of 274 km. In the blistering heat the route offered no shade, so that only seven reached the finish of the started 31 participants. Among the retiring were also the defending champion Hansknecht and the current winner of the Giro d' Italia, Fausto Coppi. After a long time the Dutch Sjef Janssen had gone alone at the top, he was overtaken on the last lap of a four-strong chasing pack. With a long sprint, the 33 - year-old Dutchman Theofiel Middelkamp secured with an average speed of 36.7 kilometers, the world championship title.

The amateurs drove 164 km. There was an Italian double victory: The 23 -year-old Alfonso Ferrari won the sprint from a five -man lead group ahead of his compatriot Silvio Pedroni.

As early as 1946, neither the professionals nor in the amateurs German riders at the start, as there was no national association at that time.
