1948 Ostzonenmeisterschaft
The football Ostzonenmeisterschaft 1948 was the first East German championship. It was played in the finals with ten teams (see also: Zone Championship ). Participants were each two teams from each state championship. In Saxony, Saxony -Anhalt and Thuringia regional championships were played only up to the semi-finals to determine the finalists. The final round was played in the knockout system. Participation of Final winner SG Planitz at the all-German championship ( the quarter-final pairing against 1 FC Nuremberg had already decided ) failed due to the political events of the year 1948 ( currency reform in the Western sectors, and the resulting tensions between East and West).
