1949 Campeonato Profesional
The Categoría Primera A 1949 was the second edition of the Colombian football championship. The championship was first decided in a final in which Millonarios won against Deportivo Cali. Scorer of the Argentine Pedro Cabillón Millonarios with 42 goals.
The number of participants increased from ten to 14 teams. For the first time Boca Juniors de Cali, Atlético Bucaramanga, Pereira Deportivo Huracán and participated in Medellin. In addition, Deportivo Barranquilla represented Junior, who played an international tournament in Rio de Janeiro. 1949 was the only season, participated in the Deportivo Barranquilla. However, the club completed only 21 of 26 games. The remaining games were 1-0 counted for the opponent.
The 1949 season was the beginning of the golden age of Colombian football championship, known as El Dorado, as many foreign top players playing in the league. In particular, came Argentines, as in Argentina at the time held a strike. The Colombian League was the only one who accepted this player.
