1950 German football championship

The final round of the Football Championship of the DFB in 1950 was the only after the war, which was attended by 16 teams ( instead of the usual eight). Reason was the envisaged participation of teams from the GDR. Indeed, it was still being negotiated in May 1950 between the DFB and the German Sport Committee of the GDR on the modalities. Why there was no agreement at the end, the two sides reasoned differently. The DDR - representatives freely held in the final places were then distributed to the other regional associations.

Because of the extension to 16 participants and the Berlin runner-up was exceptionally qualified. This was Union Oberschoeneweide from the eastern sector, which raised new problems. The club ultimately received no permission to travel to his first round match against HSV ( the game was held in Kiel in the local stadium glade place ), whereupon a majority of the team went on their own responsibility in the West Zone to compete there against HSV. Shortly thereafter, the former Oberschöneweider Weider in West Berlin founded the SC Union 06 Berlin.
