The Grand Prix of Great Britain in 1957 was held on July 20, 1957 at the Aintree Circuit held in Liverpool and was the fifth race of the Formula 1 season 1957. The Grand Prix also had the FIA honorary title of European Grand Prix.

Background

Before the Grand Prix of Great Britain, 1957 there was a not for the World Cup belonging Grand Prix in Reims, the Luigi Musso won in a Ferrari. For Ferrari, it was the third victory in 1957 in a race like that included in the Grand Prix for the drivers' championship one remained winless.

The Grand Prix of Great Britain took place in 1957 for the second time on the Aintree Circuit held in that alternated as the venue annually with the Silverstone circuit. With Stirling Moss the previous winner of the Grand Prix went to, in the championship led the reigning world champion Juan Manuel Fangio clearly ahead of the competition.

The two top Italian teams Maserati and Ferrari came with an unchanged driver line-up with four cars. For Maurice Trintignant it was the last race for the Scuderia Ferrari, he moved to the Race to the RRC Walker Racing Team, which debuted in 1957 at the Grand Prix of Great Britain. The new Formula 1 team was a Cooper T43 one for Jack Brabham. Vanwall reported on three cars for the home race. Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks came to illness and back injury, Stuart Lewis -Evans established himself as the third regular driver and drove the rest of the season with Vanwall. B.R.M. came for their home race again in Formula 1 season in 1957 with two cars and retired after the rest of the season ahead of the Formula 1 back. B.R.M. Faced Jack Fairman and Les Leston cars available for Leston this was his final Grand Prix.

With Jo Bonnier, Horace Gould and Ivor Bueb drove three riders with private Maserati 250F, Bob Gerard ended his Formula 1 career in a private Cooper BG43. This was the only time that this car came into use in a Formula 1 race.

Training

Vanwall improved the performance of their cars significantly compared to previous races and was on par with the Maserati in training. Fangio, who was in poor health and otherwise took the pole position usually, missed this and reached number four on the grid. His team-mate Jean Behra was the only rider of mithielt with Moss and Brooks and scored two position. Two-tenths of a second faster was Moss, who reached the first pole position for Vanwall and a British team as a whole. Brooks completed the first row in the second Vanwall. Hawthorn, in the fastest Ferrari, was in fifth place with a second off the pole time of Moss and Fangio started next in row two. Start number three consisted of Lewis -Evans in the third Vanwall, Harry Schell in the third Maserati and Peter Collins, who drove for Ferrari. The Ferrari of Maurice Trintignant and Luigi Musso completed the top ten.

While the cars from Vanwall were classified as capable of winning, it lacked BRM and Cooper on competitiveness. B.R.M. reached the starting positions twelve and 16, during which Cooper went into the race with Salvadori from 15th on. Race

The starting duel between Vanwall and Maserati won Behra, but Moss still overtook him during the first lap of the race to take the lead of the race.
