1961 Atlantic hurricane season
The 1961 Atlantic hurricane season officially began on June 1, 1961 and ended on 30 November 1961. During this season, a total of eight hurricanes were counted, recorded one seven strong hurricanes (Category 3 ), the second highest number of previous records. 1961 was the second of only four seasons in which two or more hurricanes were Category 5 (the others were the seasons 1960, 2005 and 2007 ).
The best known and most powerful hurricanes were met both Category 5 hurricanes Carla, Texas and killed 49 people and a loss of 325 million U.S. dollars ( 1961) has inflicted and Hattie, the Belize devastated and there killed 200 people as well as Belize City destroyed to a large extent. That was 1970, a reason to relocate the local capital to Belmopan.
Hurricane Debbie, level 3 ( out of 5) assigned, pans as a tropical cyclone in the direction of Ireland, where he still dies down over the sea in a heavy storm and northeast moves on. The Irish weather station on Malin Head measures on 16 September 1961, their then the highest wind speed. In Ireland, 11 people come through the storm killed in the UK it affects in serious damage.

During the Atlantic hurricane season, 1961, the following storm names were used. Frances, Hattie, Inga and Jenny were first used to name a hurricane, tropical storms at that time received no name.
