1965 African Cup of Nations

The African Cup of Nations 1965 (English: African Cup of Nations, French for Coupe d' Afrique des Nations ) was the fifth playout of the African continental championship in football and was held from November 12 to 21 Tunisia. Organized by the African Football Association Continental Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF ) again participated in six teams Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, DR Congo, Senegal and Tunisia. Played with two groups of three teams. The two group winners contested the final, the runners-up place play- third had found as a qualification for the reduction of the field of ten candidates to six finalists instead, where hosts Tunisia and defending champion Ghana qualified automatically. The games of the finals were held in Tunis in Stade Chedli Zouiten in Bizerte at the Stade Ahmed Bsiri, in Sfax at the Stade Taïeb Mhiri and in Sousse at the Stade Municipal Bou Ali Lahouar.

The team of Ghana was able to defend your title of 1963 and was the first country for the second time African champions in football.

Qualification

Ten teams should play four finalists in two groups of five. The group winners and runners-up should qualify for the finals. However, since six teams again withdrew their participation, the qualification was canceled. Senegal, the Ivory Coast, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ethiopia were thus qualified for the finals in Tunisia.
