First in the 1970/71 season of the German Bundesliga and thus German master of men was Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Season overview

Before the last match Bayern Munich and defending champion Borussia Mönchengladbach were equal on points, the Bavarians were better goal difference by one goal. But on the last game they lost 0-2 in Duisburg, while Gladbach won 4-1 in Frankfurt and German masters were thus again. This was the first successful title defense in the history of the Bundesliga. On the 27th matchday Memorable happened: In the game Mönchengladbach against Werder Bremen broke at 1-1 of the goal posts. Since he could not be repaired or replaced, the game was scored 2-0 for Bremen.

Vice - champion Bayern Munich won the DFB-Pokal. For the UEFA Cup were able to place 3-5 Hertha BSC Eintracht Braunschweig and Hamburg SV qualify, as well as the Vice - cup winners 1.FC Cologne instead of Cup winners Bayern Munich.

Bribery scandal

In the 1970/71 season the famous Bundesliga scandal, in which the relegation-threatened clubs Arminia Bielefeld, Rot Weiss Oberhausen and Kickers Offenbach large sums of money to other clubs paid, so this particular game results obtained fell. The scandal was uncovered by the club president of the relegated Offenbach, Horst- Gregorio Canellas on June 6, 1971 at the celebration of his 50th birthday. As a result of the scandal Arminia Bielefeld permit withdrawn in the following season and several players, coaches and officials were locked for life in some cases.
