1970 Austrian 1000km

The second 1000 km race at the Ring Austria took place on 11 October 1970 and was the tenth and final championship round of the World Sportscar Championship this year.

The race

The 1000 - km race of 1970 was the last race, which was extended as part of the World Sportscar Championship in 1970. Even before this event, the decision was made in the standings; Porsche won the title of World Champion brand. Especially the Porsche 917 of the team of John Wyer were hard to beat. Leo Kinnunen and Pedro Rodríguez won four, Joseph Siffert and Brian Redman two races of the season. At the Nürburgring, at the local 1000 - km race, won a Porsche 908 driven by Vic Elford and Kurt Ahrens. Only once did Porsche do not victorious. The 12- hour race at Sebring won the factory Ferrari 512S by Ignazio Giunti, Nino Vaccarella and Mario Andretti.

On Austria ring next to the team of John Wyer was the Austrian Porsche Holding a Porsche 917 at the start; was driven by Helmut Marko, the vehicle and Kurt Ahrens.
