The qualification for the Asian Cup 1972 in Thailand
Mode
The participating teams were divided according to their geographical locations into two groups, Israel played due to political problems in return games against South Korea in order to determine the sixth participant. For the first time also took part in the Arab teams qualifying tournament.
Iran qualified automatically as defending champions.
The AFC provided the following final places established:
- Southwest Asia: 2 teams ( Iran)
- Southeast Asia: 1 team ( Thailand)
- East \ Israel: 1 Crew

Iraq and Kuwait are thus qualified for the final tournament.
Group 3
Israel withdrew its notification whereby South Korea qualified automatically.
