1973 Norwegian First Division

The first Divisjon 1973 was the 29th season of Norway's highest football league and the eleventh season under the name 1 Divisjon. The season began on May 1, 1973, ended on 14 October 1973.

Mode

The twelve teams played in a simple game with round return match against each other so that each team completed 22 games. Master was the Leading after the last matchday. The last three teams had to dismount.

Season

Viking Stavanger became the second consecutive Norwegian champion. It was the third overall title for this team.

From the second to the last game Viking led the table. Halfway through the season, their advantage was at least four to a maximum of six points. Even in the penultimate round they could secure the championship.

Of the climbers Frigg, Raufoss IL and IK Start only Frigg had to descend again.

For the first time in the history of the first Divisjon had at the end of the season with Mjøndalen IF and Raufoss IL two teams both have the same number of points and goal difference.
