1973 Uruguayan coup d'état

The coup d'état of June 27, 1973 was a coup in Uruguay and marked the beginning of civil-military dictatorship.

Since the late 1960s there was in Uruguay more and more authoritarianism, but under the Constitution. The President Juan María Bordaberry was March 1, 1972 at the office, in the meantime the guerrilla Tupamaros was overwhelmed by the military. Then the military were very strong, and the political system they could not get back to the barracks. In February 1973 as the Army and Air Force have expressed against the Defense Minister Antonio Francese; as a political crisis began, which ended only on 27 June: the dissolution of Parliament.
