1987 UEFA European Under-16 Championship

The fifth U-16 Football Championship was held in the period from May 25 to June 3, 1987 in France. Italy won the final with a 1-0 victory over the Soviet Union. Later, the UEFA withdrew the Italians the title because Italy has the player Roberto Secci used, was present for only an irregular proof of age. The title is vacant.

The GDR did not reach the semi-finals for the first time.

Mode

The 16 qualified teams were divided into four groups of four teams each. Within the groups played each team once against each other. The group winners reached the semi-finals. The semi-final winners reached the final, the semifinal losers play for third place.

The national team of Italy Italy thus became the second time European football champions of U16/U17-Junioren. The title, however, was denied them later, as with Roberto Secci an unauthorized players was used.
