1987 Women's European Volleyball Championship
The European Women's Volleyball in 1987 took place from 25 September to 3 October in Belgium. The Games were held in Ghent, Auderghem / Oudergem and Eupen. The East won with a 3-2 in the final against the Soviet Union for the second time the title.
Mode
The twelve participants were divided into the first round in two groups of six. The group winners and runners reached the semi-finals. The other teams played to the ranks of five to twelve.

Placement matches
The games for the places one through four were held in Ghent. The remaining placement matches were played in Auderghem / Oudergem. The Federal Republic of Germany played with Gudrun Witte, Ute Hankers, Sigrid Terstegge, Gudula dust, Stefani Legall, Susanne Schlarmann, Silke Meyer, Sabine Brücher, Michaela Vosbeck, Alexandra Ludwig, Claudia Wild Hardt and Susanne Koster. The GDR became European Champion with Maike Arlt, Monika Beu, Katlin Bonath, Grit Jensen, Heike Jensen, Susanne lame, Kathrin Langschwager, Anke Lindemann, Ute Oldenburg, Ariane Radfan, Steffi Schmidt and Dorte Stüdemann.

Qualification
Belgium was set as host. The top three teams in the European championship in 1985 were also automatically qualified. These were the Soviet Union as the defending champion, the second GDR and the Third Netherlands.
Eight other teams reached the final on qualification tournaments, which were held in May. In Group A, Czechoslovakia and Romania prevailed over Finland and Norway. In group B, who played in Pazardzhik, Bulgaria and Italy hosts were successful against Switzerland. In addition, France, the Federal Republic, Hungary and Poland qualified.
