The Formula 1 1988 season was the 39th FIA Formula 1 World Championship. She was discharged through 16 races in the period from 3 April to November 5th. Ayrton Senna won for the first time the drivers' world championship. McLaren was the fourth time Constructors' world champions.

The combination of Senna, Prost and McLaren - Honda was virtually unbeatable; 15 of the 16 races won McLaren - Honda; the race in Monza a sure win was only prevented by failure or accident, the two McLarens.

  • McLaren joined TAG - Porsche to Honda and won with the MP4 / 4 15 of 16 World Championship races. Ayrton Senna was the first time world champion.
