1989 World Series

The World Series 1989 was the 86th edition of the Finals of the Major League Baseball between the two California teams Oakland Athletics, the champion of the American League, and the San Francisco Giants, the champions of the National League. The series started on 14 October and ended on 28 October 1989. Winner of the Best -of- Seven Series, the Oakland Athletics were a 4-0 sweep.

Is remembered for the World Series in 1989 primarily by a ten-day break after just before the start of the third game, the Loma Prieta earthquake occurred, the strongest quake in the region since the great quake of 1906. It is therefore now in the United States primarily under the name of "Earthquake Series" known.

Since both teams from the metropolitan region of San Francisco Bay Area come, the World Series was originally subtitled " Battle of the Bay". The hitherto last World Series with teams from the same city or region had taken place in 1956 in New York between the Yankees and the Brookly Dodgers. The next, and so far last Subway Series was in 2000 between the Yankees and the New York Mets instead.
