Background

As a replacement for the injured Alex Caffi Bernd Schneider returned one last time back to Formula 1. Otherwise, were the same pilots who had previously contested the Grand Prix of Portugal at the weekend, also the last European race of the season in Spain.

Training

Race

While Senna took the lead ahead of Prost and Mansell, Berger attempted between Alesi and Patrese through to reach the fourth. He succeeded though, led to a spin Alesis.

While Prost and Mansell were able to keep the connection to the leader Senna, came Berger, who started with a relatively hard compound tire, under pressure through him subsequent competitors who lined up behind him. Among them were both Williams and Benetton both pilots.

During the pit stops succeeded Prost, with the support of Mansell to overtake Senna. Nelson Piquet, who had completed no pit stop, at this time was in the lead. Prost and Mansell achieved a double victory for Ferrari. Alessandro Nannini took third place ahead of Thierry Boutsen, Riccardo Patrese and Aguri Suzuki, whose team Larrousse was as usual not considered due to the not manufactured in -house production chassis with the assignment of points for the Constructors' World Championship.
