1991 Copa América

The Copa America 1991 was the 35th playout the South American continental championship in football and was held from July 6 to July 21 for the sixth time in Chile instead.

On discharge mode changed since the last tournament in 1989 nothing. Preliminary and final rounds were respectively ( FFA ) played in the league system. The preliminary round was played in two groups of five teams. The best two teams of each group reached the final round. The group winner was again winner of the tournament. In case of equal goal difference decided. Defending champions Brazil had already compete in the preliminary round as all other participants. This time again, all games were played each in one day in the same stadium as part of double events.

Argentina was unbeaten South American champions and moved with his 13th title again with the previous record winners Uruguay equal. By winning the Copa América Argentina as a representative of South America for the inaugural King Fahd Cup in 1992, the precursor to the FIFA Confederations Cup, qualified.
