The 4th IAAF World Indoor Athletics Championships were held from March 12 to 14 in 1993 in Toronto.

They were the last championships, where competitions were held while walking. For the first time the pentathlon of women and heptathlon men were held, although only as demonstration sports that did not count as an official World Cup competitions.

Defending champion Lyudmila Naroschilenko was missing because of a doping suspension. The favorite Freeman fell at the final hurdle and disabled the hitherto leading Baumann. Graudyn came in 8.02 s the finish line first, but the Swiss put a protest, and the race was restarted without the disqualified Freeman.
