The Faroe Islands Football Championship 1995 was held in the first Deild said first Faroese league and overall was the 53rd season. It started on 14 May 1995 and ended on 15 October 1995.

The climber Sumba / VB and FS Vágar were the 20 and 21 participants in the highest division after the introduction of the League operation in 1947. Champion was defending GÍ Gøta who could thus win the title for the third time in a row and the fifth time overall. Descent on the other hand had NSÍ Runavík after two years of excellence.

In comparison to the previous season, the strike rate deteriorated to 3.32 per game. Highest wins achieved GÍ Gøta 6-1 in the away game against KÍ Klaksvík on 15 match night, each with a 5-0 B68 Toftir at home against FS Vágar on the opening day, HB Tórshavn in the home game against KÍ Klaksvík on the eighth matchday HB Torshavn in the away game against B36 Tórshavn on the tenth game day and B68 Toftir in the away game against NSÍ Runavík in the penultimate round. The highest-scoring game completed each FS Vágar and HB Tórshavn. On the second day the encounter with 3:5 ended on 14 Matchday 5-3, where FS Vágar had each venue.

Mode

In the first Deild each team to play 18 days played two games against each other. The point- best team in the season-ending stable as champions this league, the last team got down to the 2nd Deild. The first time was played after the three - point rule. In the newly introduced Relegation the ninth place finisher also had to unsubscribe to the whereabouts in the first Deild two relegation matches against the runner-up of the second Deild. For the European Cup 1996/97 season the first Faroese league was subsequently awarded a further qualification place in the UEFA Cup, this moved the fourth place after.

Course of the season

Cup decision

B68 Toftir got off to a perfect start to the season with three wins from their first three games, the standings was the result. The next game was at home with 1:2 lost to the runner- HB Tórshavn, so both teams swapped places. B68 consequently lost the next two games and slipped to fifth place. HB, however, not lost the next seven games, while also not a single goal was conceded. On the twelfth Gameday was for HB Tórshavn finally at 1:2 in the away game against GÍ Gøta the first defeat. After another defeat, the 0-2 at B71 Sandur on the 15th match day, HB finally lost the top spot to GÍ Gøta. These were the seventh match still in fifth place, but won ten of the remaining eleven games in a match, and thus remained until the end of the season in first place. The decision for the championship fell in the penultimate round. The runner- HB Tórshavn here lost his match at KÍ Klaksvík 0-2, while the first place winner GÍ Gøta won 2-0 at B36 Tórshavn and thus could not be obtained. GÍ here was already after 24 minutes through two own goals forward, HB conceded both goals in the 50th and 67th minute.

Relegation battle

NSÍ Runavík succeeded on matchday with a 3-1 win at Sumba / VB the first win after the previous games were all lost. However, it was not possible to move away from the relegation zone, from the fifth matchday of the penultimate place was occupied. Only at the eleventh Gameday could with a 1-0 in the away game against TB Tvøroyri the next victory will be celebrated, yet had NSÍ on 13 Matchday due to further losses with Sumba / VB swap places. This place was occupied throughout even to the end of the season, as no single game more could be gained. The descent was made after the 16th game day. Here NSÍ lost with 1:5 at GÍ Gøta, the residue on Sumba / VB could not thus be made up.

Sumba / VB however, lost the first seven season games and was from the fourth matchday end of table. Only at the eleventh Gameday was retracted with a 2-1 away win against KÍ Klaksvík the first three. The next two games could also be obtained, so that the second to last place was occupied from the 13th game day. From the next games was only lost one, but the relegation place could no longer be left in the tenth round of the residue amounted to eighth place ten points. On the final day Sumba / VB won 4-1 against TB Tvøroyri. However, since KÍ Klaksvík simultaneously also won away against B71 Sandur by three goals from Kurt Mørkøre 4-1, both teams kept their places. KÍ lay in their game after 15 minutes with a 2-0 lead, Sumba / VB had already achieved after just seven minutes this intermediate state.

A total of two teams alternated from coach. NSÍ Runavík worsened after the change to a position on the last place, FS Vágar, however, could be improved by one position to sixth place. In TB Tvøroyri the change had no effect.

National Cup

In the National Cup HB Tórshavn won 3-1 against B68 Toftir. Master GÍ Gøta bowed out 0-1 against TB Tvøroyri.

European Cup

1995/96 played GÍ Gøta as a champion of last year in qualifying for the UEFA Cup against Raith Rovers (Scotland). The first leg was lost 0-4, 2-2 in the second leg could be achieved.

HB Tórshavn took part in the UEFA Intertoto Cup. In the group stage HB played 0-0 against Universitatea Cluj (Romania ), lost 12:10 to Tromsø IL (Norway ), which is the highest defeat of a Faroese Association, drew 1-1 against Germinal Ekeren (Belgium ) and lost finally with 1: 6 at FC Aarau ( Switzerland ).

KÍ Klaksvík played as a trophy winner last year in qualifying for the European Cup Winners' Cup. Against Maccabi Haifa ( Israel) the game away was lost with 0:4, but at home could be won with 3:2, which represented the first victory of a Faroese sports team.
