1996–97 Icelandic Hockey League season

The 1996/97 season was the sixth season of the Icelandic Hockey League, the highest Icelandic Hockey League. Champion for the sixth time overall in club history Skautafélag Akureyrar.

Mode

In the main round of the three teams completed four games. The top two teams qualified for the championship final. For a win, each team was given two points, a draw there was a point and a defeat.
