1997 European Cup (athletics)

The 18th Athletics European Cup Super League Final took place in the Olympic Stadium of Munich ( Germany ) on 21 and 22 June 1997. Since now also the pole vault and hammer throw were held by women, the competition included 39 events ( 20 men, 19 women). More than 50,000 spectators were present when Linford Christie, the "Mr. Europecup ", after 10 years, gave his farewell and those with a European Cup record by setting his own cup record in the 100 meters in 10.04 s crowned.

It was also celebrated with a festival program attractive for young and old the 25th anniversary of the Olympic Park from 1972.
