Thus, in this season following 20 teams played for the championship of Division 2:

Direct climb right were once again the top three clubs. The three lowest ranked participants would normally have had to dismount and to be replaced by an equal number of non- league promoted.

Course of the season and Table

Each team wore against each group opponent a back and a leg off, even before a home crowd and once away. It was the three- point rule; case of a tie, the goal difference was the decisive factor for the placement.

After three years in the Division 2 managed France 's most successful club AS Saint- Étienne to return to the top flight. The "greens" were accompanied here by the surprise team of Sedan, where the direct " walkover " from the third to the first division - and by the way this season even the advance to the final of the national cup - succeeded, and of Troyes, which is however, interspersed only thanks to its better goal against Lille. In contrast, the three Erstligaabsteiger could only place in mid-table.

At the end of the table had Red Star Saint- Ouen from the professional sector once again leave. Sporty would also Valence as table 18th must go the way into the third division; but the " Armenians " were ultimately spared from relegation, because the actually climb to third- division side FC Gazelec Ajaccio received no professional license. In this denial of the Football Association was based on the rule that cities with less than 100,000 inhabitants could not have two professional clubs.

In the 380 matches 865 goals were scored; which corresponds to an average of 2.3 goals per game. Goalscorer and thus winning the league's top scorer was Hamed Diallo Stade Laval with 20 hits.

For the following season three relegated from Division 1 (FC Lorient, FC Sochaux and Toulouse FC ) were added; from the third- highest division increased to two teams, namely CS Louhans - Cuiseaux and U.S. Créteil.

(A) = relegated from Division 1; (N) = climbers from the National
