In the 2nd Bundesliga 1999/2000 1.FC Köln, VfL Bochum and Energie Cottbus achieved promotion to the Bundesliga.

Rise

In addition to the 1 FC Cologne and VfL Bochum Energie Cottbus was promoted to the Bundesliga. Risen from the Regionalliga until 1997, Cottbus was the fourth Bundesliga club from the former GDR Oberliga after Hansa Rostock and Dynamo Dresden and VfB Leipzig.

Descent

Tennis Borussia was subsequently withdrawn on 5 June 2000 for the past season the license. According to DFB regulations Berlin was set to the last place of the table. Through this decision, the Stuttgarter Kickers remained despite sporty descent in the league. In addition to Berlin, Karlsruhe and Offenbach also Fortuna Köln rose in the third division. Thus ended the longest continuous membership (26 years) an association for the 2nd Bundesliga.
