Roman Empire
- February 5: The Roman Senate honors Emperor Augustus with the title pater patriae ("Father of the Fatherland" ).
- Augustus banished his daughter Julia because of her alleged immoral life on the island Pandateria, where she has in strict asceticism to life. Her mother accompanied her into exile. Her marriage to Tiberius, who has tried in vain to stand up for them, is divorced.
- The Lex Fufia Caninia determines how much of their slaves Roman citizens may freely leave.
