2001 FIFA Confederations Cup

The FIFA Confederations Cup 2001 ( English FIFA Confederations Cup 2001 ) was the third playout this intercontinental football competition for national teams under this name and care of FIFA and the fifth overall and was held from 30 May to 10 June in Japan and South Korea instead. The competition was for the two Asian countries as a dress rehearsal for a year later held there World Cup 2002.

It was played as before in the two groups of four teams FFA. The two group winners each reached the semifinals. Case of a tie between two teams decided in the following order on the next round: the goal difference and goals scored in all group matches, the matches between the teams in question (number of points, goal difference, goals scored ), ultimately the Fairplay list or the lot. From the semi-final was played in the knockout system. The only goal of the game scored Hidetoshi Nakata in the 43rd minute for the Japanese national soccer team, the order of the draw- able to the final.

Robert Pires gave the French team already in the 7th minute game with a 1-0 lead, but Ramon equalized after half an hour of compensation. In the 54th minute it was Marcel Desailly, who scored the winning goal for the French.

The Golden Ball "Golden Ball" for the best player of the tournament went to the Frenchman Robert Pires, the "Silver Ball" to his compatriot Patrick Vieira and the " Bronze Ball" to the Japanese Hidetoshi Nakata.

The Golden Shoe " Golden Boot " for the top scorers were given the Frenchman Robert Pires and Éric Carrière for two tournament goals. Since both players were also each recorded two assists, the golden trophy was awarded twice. The " Bronze Shoe " went to the South Korean Hwang Sun -hong. Since there are five players had scored two goals each, decided only the number of assists and then the less completed minutes of play on the ranking.

FIFA Fair Play Trophy The Fair Play Award for athletic correct occurrence both on and off the lawn received the Japanese national soccer team.
