In the 2nd Bundesliga 2004 /05 the 1st FC Cologne, MSV Duisburg and Eintracht Frankfurt achieved promotion to the Bundesliga.

The game LR Ahlen against Wacker Burghausen (9th Round, 1-0) was annulled by the DFB sports court on 15 February 2005 and on 27 April repeated (1:3). Reason: The game was led by referee Robert Hoyzer and manipulated (see also football betting scandal in 2005 ).

The match FC Rot -Weiß Erfurt - SpVgg Unterhaching (24th Round; 2-0) was considered by the DFB sports court with 0:2. Reason: doping of the Erfurt player Senad Tiganj.

Rise

The first FC Cologne Eintracht Frankfurt and succeed the direct re- ascent. The MSV Duisburg has come after five seasons in the Bundesliga 2 to jump back to the top flight. Eintracht Frankfurt confirmed on the final day with a 3-0 home win over Wacker Burghausen the rise of its own, and thus brings 1860 München another second league year.

Descent

In the regional leagues Eintracht Trier, Rot Weiss Oberhausen Rot-Weiss Essen Rot-Weiss Erfurt and must descend. Energie Cottbus saves in the league just because of a better goal difference a goal against Eintracht Trier. LR Ahlen saved himself only on the final day with a win away at TSV 1860 Munich, who was still playing for the Bundesliga promotion. The Süddeutsche Zeitung commented on this Ahlener victory with the words: " Ahlen wants to play in the Allianz Arena. "
