2004 FU162

2004 FU162 is a six -foot-tall asteroid or meteoroid that the earth on 31 March 2004 approached up to 6,500 km.

2004 FU162 was discovered only a few hours before the time of closest approach of a robotic telescope of the LINEAR project. LINEAR ( Lincoln Near Earth Asteroid Research) is a project funded by NASA project to search for near-Earth asteroids. The minor planet could be observed for 44 minutes by LINEAR.

Due to the gravitational field of the Earth the asteroid flyby was distracted by 20 degrees from its orbit and now requires only nine months for a path around the Sun and not around a year.

Had the asteroid hit the earth, he would probably burn up in the atmosphere due to its small size and would not have reached the ground.
