2005 UCI ProTour

The UCI ProTour in 2005 was the first issue of the UCI ProTour, a series of the most important cycling race in the world.

Back in the spring, the eventual winner Danilo di Luca had worked with successes at the Amstel Gold Race and Flèche Wallonne, and the overall victory in the Tour of the Basque Country a potential advantage in the overall standings. While di Luca and the overall runner-up Tom Boonen especially in spring accumulated points, Davide Rebellin could still improve on third place in the final race, the Tour of Lombardy.

Due to its consistent strong finishes, the CSC team was able to secure the team standings. The Team Gerolsteiner was sixth as the best German team.

Special

  • The Spanish- Basque team Euskaltel -Euskadi employed exclusively Basque Spanish and French as well as Latin Americans of Basque origin.
  • Although the team Saunier Duval- Prodir has a Spanish license, but has its headquarters in Switzerland.
  • The Swiss team Phonak was not initially included in the final list of the ProTour teams due to its doping cases by the UCI. However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport overturned this decision.
