2006 African Women's Championship
The African Cup of Women 2006 (English: African Women Championship, French: Championnat d' Afrique de football féminin ) was the 7th playout of the African Continental Championships in women's football and was held from 30 October to 12 November for the third time after place in Nigeria in 1998 and 2002. Venues were Oleh, Oghara, Ughelli and Warri, Delta State. Originally the tournament was to take place in Gabon. However, for financial reasons, the Gabonese Association renounced the alignment.
Nigeria hosts took again his home advantage and became the seventh consecutive African champions and qualified along with Ghana finalist for the World Cup of Women in China in 2007.

Mode
The eight teams were divided into two groups of four teams each. Within the groups, each team plays once against each other. The group winners and runners reach the semifinals. The semi-final winners reach the final, the losers play for third place.
Qualification
32 teams played in three knockout rounds of the seven finalists. Following the withdrawal of Gabon to the orientation of the finals and its exclusion from the competition Nigeria qualified automatically as the new host.
