2008 West Asian Football Federation Championship

The Football West Asia Championship 2008 ( officially: LG WAFF Championship, IR Iran, 2008 ) was held in the Iranian capital Tehran from 7 to 15 August 2008. Six teams competed in the West Asian Football Federation of the ( WAFF ) aligned finals to determine the champion West Asia.

Originally the tournament in Lebanon should be played, due to the political situation, however, is Iran after 2004 once again host the tournament.

In addition to the Member States of the WAFF also the Persian Gulf states Oman and Qatar, who were invited to the finals, to participate in the tournament. The teams of Lebanon and Iraq withdrew their participation before the draw for the groups back from the tournament.

The venues were the Takhti Stadium (Tehran, capacity: 30,000 ) and built in 1973, Iran's national stadium, the Azadi Stadium, which is one with a capacity of 100,000 spectators of the largest stadiums in the world.

Host and defending champion Iran won the tournament after a 2-1 over Jordan in the final. For Iranians, it was the fourth title in this championship, only the second West Asian Championships (2002) could not win the Iranian team.

Participant

The six participating teams were divided into two groups of three teams. In the group stage the teams in the league system each played once against each other. The group winners and the runner-up reached the semi-finals. The winners of the semi-finals wore for the final. The third place is not played.

The draw for the preliminary round was held on 1 July 2008 at the headquarters of the WAFF in Amman, capital of Jordan instead. It disclosed the following groups:
