2009 Champions League Twenty20

The Champions League Twenty20 is an international Twenty20 cricket competition, played between clubs from India, Australia, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and the West Indies. The tournament in 2009 was the first major international cricket tournament of its kind for club teams and was held from 8 to 23 October 2009 held in India. The Indian cricket association BCCI ( Board of Control for Cricket in India ) also has the lead in the tournament. Sponsored it is from the Indian telecommunications company Bharti Airtel.

Prehistory

The competition was created in response to the worldwide success of this new cricket game form, particularly the Indian Premier League, in 2008 to life. The first tournament was to take place from late September to early October 2008 in India, but was first placed for the first time, after the terrorist attacks in Mumbai ( Bombay ) in November 2008, then a second time to finally canceled entirely for the 2008 season be.

Qualification

The original 2008 plan called for eight teams, this number was increased in 2009 to 12. Pakistan's Twenty20 champions ( Sialkot Stallions ) was not allowed to enter the country to India due to a cancellation by the Pakistani government travel ban. Besides Pakistan Bangladesh and Zimbabwe were the only full members of the ICC, which were not represented with teams. The participating teams had qualified through their national Twenty20 Championships, India has three participants, England, Australia and South Africa, two each, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and the West Indies each one. The Games were held in Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore.
