Background
After the Grand Prix of Germany Jenson Button led the Drivers' Championship with 21 points, ahead of Sebastian Vettel and 22.5 points ahead of Mark Webber. Brawn -Mercedes resulted in the Constructors' Championship with 19.5 points ahead of Red Bull-Renault and 77.5 points ahead of Toyota.
At Toro Rosso Sebastien Bourdais was replaced by Jaime Alguersuari. Alguersuari was his start at the age of 19 years and 125 days for the youngest ever Formula 1 driver, breaking the nearly 29 -year-old record set by Mike Thackwell, who was 19 years and 154 days old on his debut race.

Training

Qualifying
