2009 IIHF World Women's U18 Championship

The 2nd World Ice Hockey Championships U18 junior women of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships were in 2009 in the age group of under- eighteen year olds ( U18). In total, between 28 December 2008 and 10 January 2009 13 teams at the two tournaments of the top Division I and Division part.

The world champion was the second time the crew of the United States, which could defeat the final arch-rivals Canada 3-2 after extra time. The German team finished the tournament with sixth place in the top division that Switzerland had to begin the descent into the Division I through the last place in the top division. Austria was fourth and second to last in the division so I.

Top Division

The U18 World Championship Top Division was held from 5 to 10 January 2009 in the German town of Füssen instead. The games were in the arena of national training center ( 1,354 places) fought for hockey and curling ( 3,691 seats) and the neighboring hall I.

It was attended by eight teams playing in two groups of four teams. The world title, the United States secured by a 3-2 win after extra time over Canada. It was the second overall title for the U.S. women.

Mode

After the group matches in the preliminary competition, qualified the two group winners and runners- directly for the semi-finals. The third and fourth group played around the 5th to 8th places

Title, ascent and descent

Division I

For the first time a tournament of Division I was discharged after it had only been a qualifying tournament for the World Cup last year in the Junior Women. This was held for the year 2008/ 09 in Chambéry, France. The games were held with 1,200 seats in the Patinoire de Chambéry Métropole. The winner of the tournament consisting of five participants rose to the A- group, while the last placed the A group descent into Division I.
