2009 Men's European Volleyball League

The 2009 season of the European Volleyball League was the sixth edition of the competition. For the first time the competition was held for the women's national teams. The men played on 5 June to 19 July. The German team won the final against Spain for the first time the title. The women played from May 22 to July 12 and Serbia with a victory against Turkey the first winner.

Mode

The first round was carried out in three groups, each held with four teams. In one weekend, the teams played each twice in one place, so that a total of six home and six away games were for each team. The three group winners qualify the hosts Portugal for the Final Four.

The Final Four was held in Portimão ( Portugal) on 18 and 19 July. In the semi-final Spain won against the defending champion and Germany defeated Portugal in three sets. The hosts then secured the third place. In the final, the DVV selection defeated the Spaniard 3-2 and won the Euroleague for the first time.

The Final Four was held in Kayseri ( Turkey) on 11 and 12 July. In the semifinals, the two group winners of the preliminary round prevailed. The Bulgarians occupied after the victory against France in third. Serbia won the final against the hosts with a 17:15 in the tiebreak and was the first winner of the competition.
