2010–11 DFB-Pokal

The matches of the DFB - Pokal 2010/11 began on August 13, 2010, and ended with the final between MSV Duisburg and FC Schalke 04 in Berlin's Olympic Stadium on 21 May 2011, the FC Schalke 04 won 5-0. The trophy has been played for 68 times.

The DFB - Pokal winner gets right to start in the play-off round of the UEFA Europa League 2011/12, provided that he has qualified on the Bundesliga not already for the Champions League (or their qualification). In this case, the DFB Cup finalist for the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League would be eligible to start in 2011/12 and the fifth in the Bundesliga would nachgerückt in the play-off round of the Europa League. Since Schalke was not qualified as 14th in the Bundesliga for the Champions League, Schalke took part in the UEFA Europa League 2011/12 part and reached the quarterfinals in which came from the against the eventual finalists Athletic Bilbao.

For Duisburg it was the fourth final loss after 1966, 1975 and 1998, making it the MSV of the least successful finalists.

Draw

The draw for the first round took place on June 5, 2010. The 64 teams were set this in two pots: In amateur pot all teams are included, the

  • Qualified through the national trophies for the DFB Cup have (24)
  • In the 2009/10 season in the second division the last four places went to ( 4)
  • In the 2009/10 season in the 3rd Liga, the first four places went to ( 4)

Each of these teams was randomly assigned team from the professional pot in which all the teams of the First Bundesliga and the 14 highest ranked teams from the Second Bundesliga season 2009/10 were included. The venue where the teams enjoy the amateur pot.

In the 2nd round is also drawn from an amateur and a professional pot. But here are the teams that have risen in the Second Bundesliga, as amateur teams. Again, enjoy the amateur teams home advantage. If one of the pots are exhausted, is achieved from the remaining pot to an end; this always gets the first geloste in a pairing team home advantage.

From the second round is only drawn from a pot. Home Law enjoys a amateur team when they play against a professional team, otherwise the first geloste in a pairing team.

Second round

The second round pairings were drawn on 31 October 2010 in the ARD sports show. These were held in some cases on 21 and 22 December 2010. Two games, the bad weather had to be postponed due to have been rescheduled on January 19, 2011.

Final

The final between MSV Duisburg and FC Schalke 04 was held on 21 May 2011 at Berlin's Olympic Stadium. With the 5-0 win put Schalke 04 its own record from 1972 for the highest DFB Cup Final result. At that time, the team defeated the 1st FC Kaiserslautern also 5-0.
