An attack on a tour bus, in which several people were injured, as well as collapsing bridges and stadium blankets increased the pressure on the Indian government. Experts also feared the spread of dengue fever. Prominent athletes as British triple jumper Phillips Idowu and Australian hitherto reigning discus world champion Dani Samuels have canceled their participation due to safety concerns.

During the Games, several participants suffering from a viral gastrointestinal infection. Since the first cases occurred among swimmers, got the quality of the water in suspicion. But after the English field hockey team reported cases of illness and an investigation of the water was no indication of a pathogen, the cause remains unclear for the time being and will be further investigated.
