2010 South American Women's Football Championship

The sixth Sudamericano Femenino, the South American championship in women's soccer, took place in the period from 4 to 21 November 2010 in Ecuador instead. Ecuador was for the first time host the tournament. Titleholder was Argentina. The tournament served as qualifying for the World Cup 2011 in Germany, and the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Brazil was able to secure the title and the World Cup finals already on Matchday 2 of the final round. Colombia secured with a win against defending champions Argentina on the final day in second place and the first World Cup, and the first Olympic participation.

Mode

The ten participating teams were divided as part of a draw on two groups of five teams. Within the groups played each team once against each other. For a victory, there were three points for a draw and one point for a loss no points. The first two teams in each of the groups reached the final round, where each team once again hit on each other. Again, there were no points for a win three points for a draw and one point for a loss. The top two teams in the final round are qualified for the World Cup 2011 and the Olympic Games in 2012.

The games were held in the cities of Ambato, Azogues, Cuenca, Latacunga, Loja, Quito and Riobamba and for the first time in different places. Quito, the capital was the scene of the last games of the final round. All the locations are 2000-2850 m altitude.
