2011 German Athletics Championships

The 111 German Athletics Championships were held on 23 and 24 July 2011 at Kassel Auestadion. The German champion in the 10,000 -meter run were determined on 7 May 2011 at the Essen Sportpark Am Hallo. The all-around championships were held from August 26 to 28 in Vaterstetten instead.

The performances of the athletes suffered, especially in the technical and the sprint disciplines, under the rain and low temperatures. Probably the strongest results delivered Betty Heidler with 76.04 meters in the hammer throw and Christina Obergföll with 68.86 meters in the javelin, both championship records.

Some favorites had to cancel their participation. High jumper Ariane Friedrich, hurdler Carolin Nytra, sprinter Verena Sailer and javelin thrower Till Wöschler were missing through injury, shot putter Ralf Bartels personal reasons. Hurdler Georg Fleischhauer was not approved even though the second best time in the run to the finals because his trainer had given his starting card too late.
