Martin, who was to be the penultimate starter on the track, was from the outset in all intermediate -term measurements in the lead and extended his lead on the last started defending champion Fabian Cancellara, who long held the second place, continuously. This afforded a few meters before the finish to a driving error in a right turn, which he still lost the silver medal at Bradley Wiggins, who in terms of performance is not degraded as strong end of the race. Tony Martin took on the track both the 90 seconds before it started Britons David Millar and the 180 seconds before him into the race Mikhail Ignatiev gone from Russia. In the four and a half minutes previously traveled from the launch pad Taylor Phinney of the United States had the later world champion only 38 seconds down on the track.

The Good German overall result rounded Bert from grave robbers with the fourth. The British also with ranks 2 and 7 and the Australians in the squares 5 and 6 took a good results.
